Central Alabama Electric Cooperative (CAEC) is proud to announce the recipients of CAEC’s 2021 Alabama Youth Tour scholarships. After the cancellation of the 2021 National Rural Electric Cooperative Association Washington Youth Tour due to the COVID-19 pandemic, CAEC hosted a virtual Youth Tour event with 20 high school juniors from schools within its coverage area, and six students were awarded a $2,500 scholarship.
The recipients were: Hannah Daniel, Holtville High School; Marie Downey, Prattville High School; Kamber Harris, Chilton County High School; Maddox Hollon, Marbury High School; Jacob Moore, Chilton County High School; and Lamonica Smith, Holtville High School.
“Students, unfortunately, were forced to forfeit so many experiences due to the pandemic that we are proud to have been able to sponsor an opportunity for them to still gain valuable insights and tools from our Youth Tour program,” said Tom Stackhouse, CAEC President and CEO. “Even just by meeting these young leaders virtually, I continue to be amazed at the excellence of the youth in our area.”
The winners were selected based on their performance in virtual leadership-focused activities, such as an interactive discussion session with speakers, as well as the ability to interact and work with other students to solve problems and participation in a panel interview with members of the CAEC Board.
