
Terry Mitchell, resident of Stewartville, was appointed to the Board of Trustees for Central Alabama Electric Cooperative in February 1999. He served as the Secretary/Treasurer of the Board from November 2014 until August 2015 and Board Chairman from August 2015 until August 2018. He has earned the Credentialed Cooperative Director and Board Leadership certificates as well as maintains the Director Gold certificate from the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association’s. Mitchell and spouse (Diane), along with the other CAEC Trustees, serve on the only Board in the nation to be 100 percent Board member commitment at the Leadership Circle level the nonpartisan Political Action Committee (PAC).
Mitchell represented CAEC on the Board of Trustees of Alabama Rural Electric Association (AREA), the statewide association for 22 Alabama electric cooperatives from August 2017-2021 and the Board of Cooperative Utility Services, LLC (CUS) from August 2021-2023. Currently Mitchell represents CAEC on the Board of Trustees of Power South Energy Cooperative, headquartered in Andalusia, AL., a Generation and Transmission (G&T) electric cooperative that provides wholesale power to 16 electric cooperatives and four municipal electric systems in Alabama and northwest Florida.
Mitchell and his wife Diane have been the owners and operators of an apparel and tailor shop, Mitchell & Company, in Alexander City for over forty-five years before retiring in 2022. Mitchell served as Probate Judge for Coosa County from 2001-2016. He served as the Chief of Staff for the Alabama Department of Mental Health until July 2017. Currently, Mitchell shares a partnership in the employee benefit firm of Worthy & Mitchell.
A native of Coosa County, Mitchell participates in numerous community and civic organizations. He was one of the founders of the Coosa County Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Coosa County Industrial Development Board and a member of Coosa Action Network.
Terry and Diane have been a member of the Cooperative since 1978. They represented CAEC in 1996 at the Alabama Council of Cooperative’s Annual Co-op Couples Conference. They are also originators of Cancer Outreach and Community Hope (COACH) for Coosa County, which provides financial assistance during treatment and recovery to residents of Coosa County. The Mitchells have two sons, Terry and Bill; two grandsons, Walt and Parker; and three granddaughters, Olivia, Miller and Henley. They are members of Bethany United Methodist Church in Stewartville.
