Crews Assist in Hurricane Hermine Outages

Crews from Central Alabama Electric Cooperative (CAEC) arrived in Florida ahead of Hurricane Hermine, and were ready to help restore power outages following the storm’s landfall in the early morning hours of Friday, Sept 2.

Three, four-man crews are helping crews from Tri-County Electric Cooperative in Madison, Fla., as well as Suwannee Valley Electric Cooperative in Live Oak, Fla. As of Friday morning, Tri-County has more than 9,600 members out of power and Suwannee Valley has nearly 16,000 members out. After a week of service, all of CAEC’s crews returned home on Sept. 7.

CAEC’s crews joined several other Alabama cooperatives in sending linemen to aid in widespread power restoration efforts as part of a nationwide network of cooperatives that work together during severe weather events, including hurricanes such as this one, tornadoes, and winter ice and snow storms.
